Inspired Wanderings to…
We recently made a studio trip up to the north Norfolk coast which is particularly beautiful at this time of year. With the beginning of the change of colour in the leaves, low grey skies over the North Sea there was definitely a sense of autumn in the air.
Houghton Hall, home to the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley, is a great place to explore, especially if you are interested in contemporary art!
Housed in and amongst the grounds, but also in the hall itself is a wonderful permanent collection of sculptures, some created especially for Houghton, by a number of world renowned artists such as Anish Kapoor, Richard Long and Rachel Whiteread, to name but a few!
One of our favourite pieces was ‘Skyspace: Seldom Seen’ by James Terrell. A simplistic box like structure with a hole cut in the roof. Internal seating allows the viewer to sit back and look up at a very specific, undisrupted section of sky. “Against the stark white ceiling, the sky (even when cloudy) appeared incredibly calming and somewhat mesmerising”.
Along with their permanent sculpture collection, Houghton is holding a must-see exhibition of works by Sean Scully RA, which is on until the end of this month!
To end our Wanderings we wanted to share a little news… just last week the Virginia White Collection was Highly Commended in this years Homes and Gardens Design Awards 2023, for our woven design Matchsticks - thank you to the judging panel for this accolade!
It is travels and experiences like this that inspire us to keep creating NEW designs, patterns and textures for the ever growing Virginia White Collection.
