Inspired Wanderings to…

With the new year well underway, we've been reflecting on the past 12 months and revisiting some of our studio’s creative research trips. While scrolling through our photo archives, we came across a visit we hadn’t yet shared: the captivating Gabrielle Chanel. Fashion Manifesto exhibition at The V&A. A treasure trove of design inspiration, this exhibition offered an intimate glimpse into the revolutionary style of Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel.

The first UK exhibition dedicated to the French couturière, the show beautifully chronicled the rise of the House of CHANEL and its lasting influence on contemporary fashion. Chanel’s vision of sophisticated elegance, her exquisite attention to detail, and her enduring legacy as the epitome of luxury was really impressive. Her innovative use of pattern and texture, including a striking modern iteration of a classic houndstooth pattern, left a particularly lasting impression.

As passionate designers and lovers of textiles, we were inspired by the intricacy and artistry of both Chanel’s printed and woven fabric creations. Observing her mastery of structure and fluidity reminded us of the importance of detail and craftsmanship in our own collection of jacquard fabrics. From the flowing, organic lines of Oleanda to the layered geometry of Robins Egg, we aim to explore the same harmonious balance of precision, movement, and timeless design. Much like Chanel’s thoughtful approach to fabric and form, we believe that careful consideration of these elements is essential to crafting designs that feel timeless and beautifully refined.

Inspiration is everywhere, and we delight in the beauty of finding it in the most unexpected places. Whether it’s the graphic lines of an architectural detail, the organic forms of nature, or the artistry of historic design, we’re never limited in where we look for ideas. This openness is one of the great joys of the creative process, allowing us to bring a rich variety of influences into the Virginia White Collection.

It is these trips, journeys and encounters that fuel our passion for innovation, driving the creation of new designs for the ever-expanding Virginia White Collection.
