Inspired Wanderings to…

Earlier this summer saw a visit to the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas which has long been a place we felt we needed to experience.

Artist Donald Judd's main mission here was to create vast spaces for a number of artists, such as Dan Flavin and John Chamberlain, to exhibit their works and leave them for permanence, anchored into a specific place and time. The sheer vastness of the project on its 340 acre ex-army barracks estate was most impressive.

The converted artillery sheds used to display Judd’s own “100 untitled mill aluminium open boxes”, reflecting the light, nature and architecture they stand in, was breathtaking and one of the most important exhibitions of a twentieth century artist, we have
ever experienced!

It was after visiting our wonderful Austin based showroom Supply that we set off on the 7 hour drive across the Texan desert to Marfa, which is near the Mexican Border. The journey was both inspiring and moving! We arrived in the low flat town to a golden sunset, that slowly developed into a blanket of stars.

Marfa has a Wild West vibe to it and is dominated by more than 70 Judd owned buildings, preserving this place as to how he found it.

It is travels and experiences like this that inspire us to keep creating NEW designs, patterns and textures for the ever growing Virginia White Collection.
