Agnes Horizontal Lines was named after the great American minimalist artist Agnes Martin (1912-2004), whose work I saw and was inspired by at the Tate Modern. Martin’s style is discreet and subdued in colour, yet the tones have a powerful and illuminating effect. The imperfect nature of the hand drawn lines gives this pattern a distinct sense of movement within the consistency of the design.
